AE Expeditions introduces Antarctic skiing cruises

AE Expeditions is launching a specialized program starting this November that allows experienced skiers and snowboarders to traverse the remote, snow-capped landscapes of Antarctica during cruise voyages.

Led by qualified mountain guides, the excursions offer participants the chance to navigate alpine bowls and long open slopes. Depending on weather and terrain conditions, passengers may head out up to twice daily, with the potential for six or more outings per trip. Past expeditions have featured descents such as 700 meters from Mount Tennant on Ronge Island and 800 meters from Mount Hoegh to Andvord Bay.

The program is strictly for advanced participants with off-piste experience and high fitness levels. Guides provide instruction on essential technical skills, including the use of ice axes, ropes, and safe movement through avalanche-prone terrain.

Sailings depart from Ushuaia, Argentina, aboard the Sylvia Earle and Greg Mortimer ships between November and February. The ski and snowboard add-on costs approximately €1,240 or £1,022 per person. The base 12-night Across the Antarctic Circle cruise starts from £14,898.
