Aebersold siblings win dual silver at Orienteering European Championships
Swiss orienteering siblings Simona and Fabian Aebersold both secured silver medals in the long-distance events at the European Orienteering Championships in Lithuania.
In the men's race, 25-year-old Fabian Aebersold earned his first individual medal at a major international elite event. He finished second on the 16.9-kilometer course, trailing only the Norwegian defending champion Kasper Harlem Fosser by 1:09 minutes. Aebersold secured his position ahead of Sweden's Viktor Svensk, who took the bronze.
In the women's race, Simona Aebersold took silver after a competitive duel with Sweden's Tove Alexandersson. Although Alexandersson held a significant lead at one point, Aebersold narrowed the gap to finish 49 seconds behind the gold medalist. The challenging course in the Petroškai forest featured dense vegetation and technical terrain that tested the athletes' navigation and physical endurance.
