AECOM Hunt-led joint venture selected for $2.3B Tampa Bay Rays stadium

A joint venture consisting of AECOM Hunt, Turner Construction, and HORUS Construction Services has been selected to build a new $2.3 billion stadium for the Tampa Bay Rays. The selection committee ranked the joint venture as the top option following an evaluation of four separate builder proposals. The firm's extensive experience with Major League Baseball venues and previous work on the Tropicana Field roof were cited as key factors in the decision.

While a builder has been chosen, the project still requires the approval of a financing plan from the City of Tampa and the Hillsborough County Commission. Current estimates suggest the county and city could be responsible for approximately $800 million to $960 million, while the Rays would cover the remaining costs and any overruns. Local leaders, including Tampa Mayor Jane Castor, are exploring options such as a special taxing district to provide loans for the project. The goal is to have the new ballpark ready for the 2029 opening day.
