Aegean-Black Sea transport axis strategic plan signed

Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas has signed the Strategic Action Plan for the Aegean-Black Sea road and rail axis in Brussels. This initiative, developed through the collective work of Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania, serves as a roadmap for infrastructure projects intended to enhance European connectivity and security by 2040.

The project aims to connect Thessaloniki and Alexandroupoli with Bucharest via Sofia. Beyond improving transport, the axis is designed to bolster continental defense and security, while simultaneously strengthening trade, exports, tourism, and supply chain reliability. The long-term goal is to create a modern route extending toward Ukraine and Moldova in the east and Central Europe in the west, positioning Northern Greece as a gateway to the Balkans, the Mediterranean, and Southeast Europe.
