AEK Athens players call for self-criticism after Champions League loss

AEK Athens players have expressed a need for self-criticism following their 3-1 defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk at Stamford Bridge in the UEFA Champions League. Despite the loss, statistics indicate AEK was competitive for much of the match, maintaining control and statistical advantages in several categories, including aerial duels and expected goals (xG), until a late decline in energy and concentration allowed Shakhtar to secure the win.

Individual performances, particularly that of Lovro Majer, were noted as highlights. Following the match, the team has been training in England and is preparing for an upcoming fixture against Manchester City. Manager Marko Nikolic has provided the squad with a rest day before they travel to Manchester this Saturday.
