AEK to add hotel to Sunel Arena and discuss lease with Olympiacos

AEK club chairman Makis Angelopoulos told the Sports & Tourism Summit that the team will incorporate a hotel from a globally recognised hotel chain inside the Sunel Arena. He described the project as a world‑first, aiming to turn the former Olympic venue into a family‑oriented destination that blends sport, tourism and “edutainment”. Angelopoulos noted that the arena previously cost €650,000 annually to keep closed and has already been upgraded, and that the hotel partnership will be announced soon.

In parallel, AEK is negotiating a lease of the Sunel Arena with rival club Olympiacos while Olympiacos renovates its own stadium. The agreement would allow Olympiacos to use the arena for EuroLeague and domestic matches, with rental income projected around €1‑1.5 million for AEK and possible venue improvements such as upgraded locker rooms and tournament facilities. The deal is expected to be finalised in the coming weeks.
