AEL football club faces June 17 sale deadline as owner Dabelis exits

Greek second‑division side AEL has been given a deadline of 17 June to complete a sale of the club. Owner Ahileas Dabelis has confirmed that his family’s departure is “definitive and irrevocable” and that no other official buyer has emerged besides Mr. Delopoulos, who received the club’s financial data on 3 June after signing a confidentiality agreement.

The club owes roughly €700,000 in obligations to third parties and players, while Dabelis notes that about €840,000 in uncollected and pledged funds would be available to a new owner. He indicated that the new proprietor would need to assume immediate tax‑ and social‑security liabilities of approximately €1.78 million. If a buyer is not secured, AEL will not register for the upcoming Super League 2 season and will enter liquidation as provided by law.
