AEL welcomes 4,000 fans to open training, recalling 1985‑86 double-title era

On July 23, AEL held its first public open training at the AEL FC Arena, drawing around 4,000 supporters who created a lively atmosphere. Club owner Zisis Stylios expressed his emotion at seeing the stands full and thanked everyone involved in rebuilding the team. Metropolitan of Larissa and Tyrnavos Ieronymos blessed the occasion, while coach Socrates Ofridopoulos outlined plans to develop a unified, competitive squad that highlights local talent.

The event also evoked memories of the club’s historic 1985‑86 season, when AEL captured the cup by defeating EPA 1‑0 and secured league titles, achieving a rare double. Those past successes were highlighted as a benchmark for the current rebuilding effort.

Both the enthusiastic fan turnout and the reference to the 1985‑86 triumph underscore AEL’s aim to restore its former standing in Greek football.
