Aeliana favored for $6m Cox Plate at Flemington

The $6m Group 1 Cox Plate is set to take place this Saturday at Flemington. The mare Aeliana, trained by Chris Waller and ridden by jockey James McDonald, enters the race as the favorite.

A win would mark Waller’s seventh victory and McDonald’s fifth in the event. Aeliana is coming off a third-place finish in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes and a second-place finish in the Group 2 Sunrise Stakes.

Other notable competitors in the field include Ceolwulf, trained by Joe Pride, and Sir Delius. Three-year-olds Warwoven and Blind Raise are also noted as strong contenders for the 2040-meter race.
