AEMPS investigates glasses claiming to automatically correct vision
The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) has launched a market control investigation into a product marketed online as ‘Gafas Progresivas Inteligentes de Titanio - Enfoque Automático y Fotocromático’. The product claims to automatically correct various refractive errors without the need for individualized vision assessments or personalized prescriptions.
The investigation was prompted by the General Council of Opticians-Optometrists (CGCOO), which raised concerns regarding the safety and regulatory compliance of the product's advertising and commercialization. Andrés Gené Sampedro, president of the CGCOO, emphasized that technological innovation in optics must be accompanied by guarantees of quality, efficacy, and safety to prevent commercial promises from replacing sanitary rigor.
