Aena launches 120 MW solar plant at Madrid-Barajas Airport

Aena has inaugurated a 120 MW photovoltaic plant at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, marking the start of what is described as the largest solar park located within an airport premises in Europe. The facility utilizes approximately 215,000 solar panels and is expected to produce 242.9 GWh of energy annually, which covers 100% of the airport's current electricity consumption.

The project, which had a budget of approximately 99.1 million euros and a 50-month execution period, is part of Aena's broader photovoltaic plan. To further increase renewable generation, two additional installations are being developed: a 7.5 MW plant currently under construction to serve terminals T1, T2, and T3, and a third 45 MW plant currently in the drafting phase. Once all three plants are operational, the total estimated annual generation is 344 GWh.

Spanish government officials, including the Minister for Ecological Transition and the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, visited the site to confirm the plant's entry into operation.
