US AI Data Center Protests Sweep Across Hundreds of Communities

Across the United States, coordinated protests erupted on July 18 against the rapid expansion of artificial‑intelligence data centers. State and local officials are tracking the unrest as political pressure mounts on companies such as Meta, Alphabet, Amazon, Microsoft and xAI, whose projects have drawn criticism for high power use (e.g., Meta’s 630 MW Ohio site) and off‑grid generators that have raised air‑quality complaints.
