Aena opposes airport co-management in Balearic and Canary Islands

Aena and the labor union CCOO have expressed opposition to proposals for the co-management of airports in the Balearic and Canary Islands. Aena has filed a document with the CNMV questioning the constitutionality of the Balearic co-management law, arguing that the State holds exclusive competence over airports of general interest. The company warned of potential losses of approximately 32.9 million euros and stated it would defend its interests and shareholders.

In the Balearic Islands, CCOO warned that fragmenting airport management could increase operational costs, leading to higher airport fees and more expensive airfares for residents. The union also noted that regional management would not allow for direct control over flight numbers or slots, as these are regulated by European norms and national coordination bodies.

Meanwhile, the Canary Islands government is negotiating a model with the State to increase its decision-making capacity regarding its airports. Officials in the Canary Islands have criticized Aena's stance, asserting that their Statute of Autonomy grants them the right to participate in decisions affecting their airports.
