Spain invests in green urban projects in Pinto, Valencia and Málaga
The municipality of Pinto has begun scanning around 12,000 urban trees to build digital twins for each specimen. The data will quantify each tree's carbon‑dioxide absorption, pollutant retention and oxygen output, and flag trees that could pose a risk of falling during strong winds or rain, improving maintenance planning.
Valencia's City Council approved a €4.2 million first phase of a redesign of the historic Sant Agustí square, part of a broader €15 million programme. The plan will add more than 2,600 m² of new green space, plant 264 trees – roughly tripling the existing canopy – and create about 3,800 m² of pedestrian‑only area, aiming to cut vehicle traffic, lower summer temperatures and improve air quality.
The Port Authority of Málaga gave the green light to a €48.38 million tender for the extension of pier 9 and the filling of pier 8. The 27‑month project will create a multifunctional explanade to boost the port’s operational and logistical capacity in response to rising cargo volumes, reinforcing the port’s role in the Mediterranean logistics network.
