Aeon Next launches automated Hachioji logistics center

Aeon Next has commenced operations at its new Customer Fulfillment Center (CFC) in Hachioji, Tokyo, to support its online supermarket service, Green Beans. The facility utilizes advanced AI and robotics to enhance delivery efficiency and reduce labor intensity.

A key feature of the Hachioji CFC is the ‘AutoFreezer’ system, which automates the storage and retrieval of frozen foods. This technology is expected to increase frozen food processing capacity by approximately 2.7 times compared to the company’s existing facility in Chiba, while allowing for 1.5 times more inventory in a more compact space. The center also employs autonomous mobile robots (AMR) for refrigerated goods and robotic arms for picking and bagging items.

In addition to logistics advancements, Aeon Next announced plans for an ‘AI Concierge’ service powered by Google Cloud technology. Aiming for a 2027 launch, the feature will allow users to photograph ingredients in their refrigerators to receive meal suggestions, automatically add missing items to their carts, and manage orders via voice commands.

The new center is positioned to improve delivery speeds for Western Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture, potentially enabling same-day delivery in certain areas. Aeon Next also plans to host facility tours for members starting in mid-November 2026 and will promote local products from the Hachioji region through the platform.
