Aeon opens new logistics center in Iwate to bolster disaster resilience

Aeon is establishing a new logistics hub, the Aeon Iwate Front Distribution Center (FDC), in Kanegasaki, Iwate Prefecture. The facility is designed to strengthen the company’s supply chain resilience by decentralizing inventory from its existing hub in Taiwa, Miyagi Prefecture. This dual-hub system aims to ensure a stable supply of goods even during natural disasters or equipment failures.

The facility features emergency power generation equipment, marking the first time such a measure has been implemented at an Aeon logistics site to maintain operations during power outages. The center can store approximately 400,000 cases of beverages and daily necessities.

Operational rollout will occur in phases: the first-floor low-temperature area is scheduled to begin operations on October 7, 2026, while the ambient temperature areas on the first and second floors are expected to become operational by February 23, 2027. Once fully functional, the center will supply 105 Aeon group stores across northern Tohoku. The new location is expected to reduce delivery distances to stores within Iwate Prefecture by 58% and improve shipping productivity for stock-type products by 40% through digital transformation.
