AERODOM launches first phase of new baggage system at AILA

AERODOM has launched the first phase of a new Automated Baggage Handling System (BHS) at Las Américas International Airport (AILA) in the Dominican Republic. The southern zone of the system has been operational since early June, marking the first of two major stages in a modernization project designed to enhance security, efficiency, and reliability for departing luggage.

The project involves an investment exceeding RD$900 million and includes advanced technology such as computed tomography (Standard 3) for baggage inspection, a modern SCADA control and monitoring system, automatic sorters, and 360-degree label readers. Once fully integrated, the system is expected to significantly increase departure baggage processing capacity.

Work continues on the northern zone, with full integration of the project expected by the end of this year, though some reports suggest the complete modernization process may extend through 2026. The implementation has been carried out gradually to ensure airport operations and passenger experiences remain unaffected.
