Aeroflot Airbus grounded in Geneva for over four years due to sanctions
An Aeroflot Airbus A321 has remained grounded at Geneva Airport for over four years due to European Union sanctions following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The aircraft, registered in Bermuda, has been stationary since February 27, 2022.
The prolonged seizure has resulted in significant costs, with parking fees estimated to exceed 1.7 million euros. The aircraft is reportedly in a state of severe degradation; observers note flat tires, visible fuselage damage, and an unpleasant odor emanating from the plane, where fuel and meals from its final flight remain untouched.
While the aircraft was valued at approximately 25 million euros at the time of its last flight, industry experts suggest it may now be more practical to scrap the plane and sell its remaining reusable parts rather than attempting to return it to service.
