Aeroflot orders 90 MC-21 aircraft from Rostec

Aeroflot and the state conglomerate Rostec have signed a contract for the delivery of 90 MC-21-310 aircraft, marking the largest order in the history of Russian civil aviation. The agreement, signed in Moscow with participation from President Vladimir Putin via video link, aims to bolster Russia's domestic aviation industry and reduce reliance on Western manufacturers like Airbus and Boeing.

Deliveries of the 90 aircraft are scheduled to take place between 2029 and 2032, with 14 units expected in 2029, 18 in 2030, 24 in 2031, and 34 in 2032. This new order, combined with an earlier commitment for 18 aircraft due in 2027-2028, brings Aeroflot’s total commitment for the MC-21 to 108 units.

The comprehensive contract involves several Rostec subsidiaries, including United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) for manufacturing, Aviacapital-Service for leasing, and United Engine Corporation (UEC) for the PD-14 engines. Beyond aircraft supply, the deal includes 22 years of technical support, maintenance, flight simulators, and crew training. The MC-21-310 features domestically developed components and engines to replace Western technology following international sanctions.
