Aeroflow Breastpumps survey reveals lack of workplace support for breastfeeding mothers
A survey conducted by Aeroflow Breastpumps indicates that many working mothers struggle to balance breastfeeding with professional responsibilities. While 79% of surveyed mothers intended to continue breastfeeding after returning to work, 45% stated they would consider changing jobs to secure better support.
The findings highlight a significant gap in awareness regarding the Providing Urgent Maternal Protections for Nursing Mothers (PUMP) Act. Only half of the respondents were familiar with these federal protections, which grant most covered employees the right to reasonable break time and a private, functional space to express milk for up to one year after childbirth.
Additionally, the survey found that only 21% of working mothers had an official workplace lactation policy in place. Under the PUMP Act, employers are required to provide spaces that are shielded from view, free from intrusion, and located somewhere other than a bathroom.
