Aeroméxico pilots refuse to compromise on wages or working hours
The Mexican pilots' union, ASPA, has stated it will not concede on wage increases or working hour flexibility during ongoing contract negotiations with Aeroméxico. The union's deadline for a resolution is October 1.
Jesús Ortiz Álvarez, general secretary of ASPA, noted that the 1,632 pilots seek to recover purchasing power lost during the COVID-19 pandemic, when they accepted salary reductions of over 50 percent to support the airline. While some progress has been made regarding administrative and operational clauses, Ortiz Álvarez described the company's latest proposal as being far from the union's goals.
If a satisfactory agreement is not reached by the legal deadline, the union is considering two paths: requesting an extension to continue dialogue or initiating a strike. The decision to seek an extension will be subject to a vote by the General Assembly. Pilots recently held a peaceful demonstration at Aeroméxico's corporate headquarters to demand fair wages and labor rights.
