Aeroporto dello Stretto to receive 64 million euro infrastructure upgrade

Authorities in Reggio Calabria have announced a 64 million euro investment plan to renovate and expand the Aeroporto dello Stretto. The plan, presented by regional president Roberto Occhiuto, local official Francesco Cannizzaro, and Sacal president Luciano Vigna, aims to transform the airport into a strategic hub for Southern Italy.

The largest portion of the funding, 36 million euros, is dedicated to constructing a new departure area. Other key investments include 8 million euros for access road improvements, 5 million euros for security and digitalization, and 3.5 million euros each for runway paving, environmental remediation of the coastal area, and the removal of dilapidated buildings. An additional 2.5 million euros will support the local Fire Brigade detachment.

Alongside these infrastructure upgrades, flight capacity is set to increase. Officials report that flight rotations are expected to rise from 36 to 43 compared to the previous winter season, providing 30,000 more seats. Regarding recent concerns over service reductions, Senator Tilde Minasi clarified that Ryanair operations are undergoing standard seasonal route adjustments rather than cancellations.
