Argentina extends airport concession to 2049 with US$ 600 million investment
The Argentine government has approved a contractual readjustment with Aeropuertos Argentina 2000, a subsidiary of Corporación América led by Eduardo Eurnekian, to extend the concession of 35 airports. The agreement extends the current term from 2038 to February 13, 2049, with a potential seven-year extension until 2056.
The extension is intended to restore the economic-financial balance of the contract, which was significantly impacted by the drop in air traffic during the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of the deal, Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 must make additional direct investments of US$ 600 million, primarily aimed at infrastructure improvements such as a potential new international terminal at Ezeiza Airport.
To access the final seven-year extension, the company must provide an international audit report by June 30, 2027, confirming the availability of funds. Additionally, at least 75% of the planned works must be completed before December 31, 2031. The agreement also establishes an internal rate of return (IRR) of 14.3% and aims to resolve outstanding legal disputes between the Argentine State and the concessionaire.
