Aeropuertos Argentina concession extension faces legal scrutiny

A report from Argentina’s Auditoría General de la Nación (AGN) has identified serious irregularities regarding the contract extension for Aeropuertos Argentina. The audit questions the legality of a 2020 extension, which moved the concession end date from 2028 to 2038 under the previous administration of Alberto Fernández. The AGN noted that the extension failed to meet regulatory standards, bypassed mandatory legal steps, and lacked necessary documentation and oversight from competent bodies.

The current administration of Javier Milei is reportedly seeking a further extension to 2066. This push follows the discovery of a secret agreement signed in September 2025 between the former president of the National Airport System Regulatory Agency (ORSNA) and the CEO of Aeropuertos Argentina. The AGN report highlights concerns regarding transparency and the independence of the regulatory body.

If the current legal challenges and irregularities are not resolved, the 35 airport terminals in the country may return to state control in 2028, potentially triggering a new competitive bidding process.
