Aesthetic trends shift toward extreme thinness and natural body contours

A resurgence of extreme thinness trends, reminiscent of the 'heroin chic' aesthetic from the 1990s and 2000s, is appearing on runways and social media. A Vogue Business analysis of 7,800 looks from 2026 autumn/winter shows that 97.6% of models in the United States wore sizes 0 to 4. Health experts warn that this pursuit of extreme thinness can lead to malnutrition, sarcopenia, and anorexia, noting that extreme weight loss and obesity are often two sides of the same health issue.

Simultaneously, aesthetic trends regarding body contours are shifting. There is a growing preference for 'naturalized' gluteal aesthetics, focusing on firmness, contour, and skin texture rather than extreme volume. High-profile figures such as Cardi B have reportedly reduced gluteal volume, while others like Virginia and Bruna Biancardi have sought targeted procedures to address sagging or skin texture rather than increasing size. Experts emphasize that nutritional and medical treatments should prioritize muscle preservation and overall quality of life over simple scale weight reduction.
