AEVivienda detects irregularities in social housing projects
The State Housing Agency (AEVivienda) has identified significant irregularities in social housing projects previously promoted by former governments. During initial inspections in Cochabamba, officials discovered 114 vacant houses, 14 rented properties, and one certified sale.
In the La Tamborada condominium, 672 apartments remain unoccupied and face infrastructure issues involving sewage, water connections, and land sanitation. In Tarija, inspectors found a social housing unit converted into a luxury residence and another project where 17 families had not moved into their delivered homes.
AEVivienda Director Jorge Vaca stated that beneficiaries who have abandoned, rented, or sold these properties may be required to return the benefit. Current regulations mandate that social housing must maintain its intended purpose for a period of 10 years. The agency plans to conduct systematic inspections across other departments to establish administrative and legal responsibilities and to quantify the total resources involved.
