AEW Energie to raise Aargau electricity rates by 7% in 2027

AEW Energie AG has announced an electricity rate increase for customers in the Canton of Aargau, scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027. The adjustment is expected to be approximately 6.7% to 7% for both residential and commercial users.

While energy procurement costs are projected to drop by about 9%, these savings are being offset by the rising costs of maintaining and modernizing the electrical grid. The utility is investing in infrastructure to accommodate the increasing load from heat pumps, electric vehicles, and photovoltaic installations. For a commercial customer consuming 63,000 kWh annually, the increase will amount to roughly 1,131 francs per year.

Alongside these changes, AEW Energie is introducing a dynamic energy and grid usage tariff. This model allows prices to fluctuate based on real-time market conditions and grid load, offering potential savings of 5% to 10% for customers who can shift their consumption, such as during electric vehicle charging. The feed-in tariff for small photovoltaic systems (up to 30 kVA) will remain unchanged at 8.2 Rp./kWh.
