AEW Forbidden Door 2026 match altered after Callum Newman’s injury

Callum Newman was slated to face Jon Moxley at AEW Forbidden Door 2026 on June 28 at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. A shoulder injury suffered by Newman at NJPW Dominion forced his removal from the card. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted, “Callum Newman was gonna be on the show, but injured. I don’t know the match,” and Bryan Alvarez added, “I believe it was the Moxley match.”

With Newman out, Jon Moxley defended the AEW Continental Championship against Bandido instead. The event, co‑promoted by AEW, New Japan Pro‑Wrestling, CMLL and STARDOM, also featured Will Ospreay defeating Swerve Strickland to win the men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament and Mercedes Moné winning the women’s tournament for a second consecutive year.

The change in the main‑event lineup has led to speculation about future matchups for Newman and Moxley, while other storylines from the show, such as Ospreay’s anticipated challenge for the World Heavyweight Title, continue to develop.
