AEX index rises amid surging oil prices and interest rate concerns

The Amsterdam stock market (AEX) showed resilience, posting gains despite rising interest rates and geopolitical tensions. On Monday, the AEX rose by approximately 0.4 to 0.5 percent, supported by energy stocks like Shell and SBM Offshore, which benefited from surging oil prices. Brent crude rose significantly, reaching over 107 dollars per barrel, following the rejection of an Iranian proposal regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz by U.S. President Donald Trump.

In the semiconductor sector, companies like ASML and ASMI saw support from ongoing interest in artificial intelligence. However, broader market sentiment was tempered by rising long-term interest rates, with U.S. 10-year Treasury yields reaching levels not seen since 2007. Additionally, industrial profit growth in China showed a significant slowdown in August compared to July.

Investors are now looking toward upcoming U.S. PCE inflation data, which will be critical for the Federal Reserve's future interest rate decisions.
