Aezkoa Valley protests after reported gender‑based assault

The youth collective Aezkoako Gazte Asanblada (AEZGA) and the Equality Service Berdin Bizihan announced a public denunciation of a gender‑based assault that occurred in the Aezkoa valley. Because the victim’s identity was protected, details of the incident were not disclosed. Both organisations called for a protest on Monday, 3 August, at 20:30 in front of the Casa del Valle in Aribe, urging the community to confront what they described as “a new case of structural machista violence”.

AEZGA stressed that “the majority of times the aggressors are our neighbours, friends, relatives or co‑workers” and rejected far‑right narratives that portray such crimes as the work of “unknown monsters”. The Equality Service reaffirmed its commitment to eradicate gender‑based intimidation and called on local associations, festivals, hospitality venues and citizens to help prevent and respond to such violence.
