Argentina's Football Association Relocates to Pilar, Court Nullifies IGJ Oversight

The National Civil Chamber ruled in favor of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), validating its move of the legal domicile from the City of Buenos Aires to the town of Pilar in Buenos Aires Province. The court declared null and void the resolution issued by the Inspección General de Justicia (IGJ) that had appointed overseers for the AFA, and cancelled the association’s registration in the IGJ’s public register, stating that the IGJ lacks jurisdiction over decisions made by provincial authorities.

The judges affirmed that fiscal oversight now belongs exclusively to the Provincial Directorate of Legal Persons of Buenos Aires, noting, “Quedó definitivamente consolidado bajo este organismo el control de legalidad y las facultades de fiscalización sobre esta entidad.” The decision supports AFA president Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia, who had challenged the IGJ’s intervention as legally unfounded. Ongoing criminal investigations involving alleged money‑laundering and alleged misappropriation of contributions by AFA officials continue unaffected by the ruling.
