AFAD highlights data-driven disaster management technologies

At the Big Data Management in Disasters Symposium held in Ankara, AFAD President Ali Hamza Pehlivan detailed Turkey's digital infrastructure and technological advancements in disaster management. Pehlivan emphasized a shift from crisis management to risk management, driven by a science- and data-based approach.

Key technological components mentioned include the Disaster Management and Decision Support System (AYDES), which operates with 500 web-based integrations. The system's capabilities include tracking approximately 155 satellite systems, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), 155,000 cameras, and 87,000 vehicles. Pehlivan noted that AFAD closely monitors developments in software, satellite systems, and artificial intelligence to enhance disaster response and mitigation efforts.
