AFAD launches regional disaster accreditation camp in Konya

AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency) has launched a Regional Accreditation Camp at the Bulcuk Recreation Area in the Ilgın district of Konya. The training event involves approximately 1,030 personnel and 103 teams from the Central Anatolia, Aegean, and Mediterranean regions.

The program focuses on field exercises, applied training, and strengthening coordination between search and rescue teams. Konya Governor İbrahim Akın emphasized the importance of preparedness in the face of global climate change, noting that disaster management must now account for floods, droughts, fires, and dust storms in addition to earthquakes.

Ilgın Mayor Ömer Apil announced that the Bulcuk Recreation Area will be closed to the public for three days, from August 28 to August 30, 2026, to accommodate the large-scale organization. The camp aims to increase the number of accredited teams, enhancing Turkey's capacity to respond to both domestic and international disaster requests.
