AFAD search and rescue dogs undergo training in Van

Search and rescue dogs at the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) Provincial Directorate in Van are undergoing specialized training to locate individuals trapped under rubble or lost during disasters.

Two newly joined dogs, Börte and Lucy, are participating in training programs designed to prepare them for various scenarios, including earthquakes, floods, fires, and other accidents. The curriculum focuses on developing skills in agility, command obedience, locating live subjects under debris, and tracking specific scents.

According to AFAD Search and Rescue Technician and Dog Trainer Burak Özgan, the training emphasizes socialization and basic obedience to ensure the dogs are not aggressive when approaching victims. Following the completion of their training, the dogs will undergo qualification exams to become eligible for search and rescue operations across the country.
