AFC North enters 2026 season with major coaching and roster shifts

The AFC North division is entering a period of significant transition heading into the 2026 NFL season, marked by three new head coaches across its four teams. Following the departures of long-time coaches John Harbaugh in Baltimore and Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh, the Ravens have appointed Jesse Minter, while the Steelers have hired Mike McCarthy. Cleveland has also replaced Kevin Stefanski with Todd Monken.

In Cleveland, head coach Todd Monken is adopting a ‘clean slate’ approach regarding quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson is preparing for his first regular-season game in nearly two years following a series of injuries, including a re-tear of an Achilles tendon in 2025.

In Pittsburgh, Mike McCarthy reunites with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The Steelers have also bolstered their roster through trades and free agency, including the acquisition of wide receiver Michael Pittman and the signing of running back Rico Dowdle. Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Bengals remain a division focal point with Zac Taylor entering his eighth season and Joe Burrow returning at quarterback.
