AfD and BSW propose motion to end Ukraine aid and Russian sanctions

The AfD and BSW parties in Saxony-Anhalt are planning a joint motion to end German military support for Ukraine and lift economic sanctions against Russia. The parties intend to request a special session of the state parliament to debate the proposal, which asserts that current financial aid to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia have failed.

The motion calls for the state government to use all available means, including initiatives in the Bundesrat, to prevent further escalation in Ukraine and to pursue a policy focused on diplomacy and peace negotiations with Russia. It also seeks the normalization of economic relations between Germany and Russia.

While the motion carries significant political weight as a signal to the federal government in Berlin, it is largely symbolic. Decisions regarding foreign policy, weapons deliveries, and international sanctions are the exclusive competence of the federal government and the European Union, rather than individual German states.
