AfD Congress in Erfurt Spurs Civil Disobedience Training and School Certificate Delays

The Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) will hold its federal party congress on July 4‑5 2026 at the Messe venue in Erfurt. Authorities expect large-scale protests, a heavy police presence and significant traffic disruptions in the city.

The anti‑fascist alliance known as "Widersetzen" publicly admitted it will use illegal civil‑disobedience tactics to block the event. Activists described a detailed “action training” in Erfurt’s Kaufmannskirche, planning seat‑blockades, establishing contact networks and preparing for police confrontations, invoking historic civil‑rights examples such as Rosa Parks.

The Thuringian Ministry of Education issued special instructions for schools on the last school day before the congress. Certificates must be handed out by 9:30 a.m., and childcare will be provided for students who cannot collect them. Student transport ceases after noon, and a hotline will operate on July 2‑3 for school‑related inquiries.
