AfD critiques government spending and reports 2024 finances

The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is facing scrutiny regarding both its own financing and the allocation of government funds. In Saxony, AfD financial policy spokesperson Norbert Mayer has criticized government spending on humanitarian, social, and cultural purposes. He noted that approximately 350,000 euros were allocated for 2025, including 40,000 euros for Sinti and Roma interests and nearly 60,000 euros for a backup generator in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Mayer argued that such small-scale funding leads to high administrative costs with minimal public benefit.

Regarding the party's own finances, the AfD reported total revenues of approximately 36.3 million euros in 2024, resulting in a surplus of about 2.6 million euros. A significant portion of this—over 12.7 million euros—comes from state partial funding, which is tied to election results and membership fees under the Party Act. While the AfD's total revenue is lower than that of major parties like the SPD or CDU, the party maintains over 51,000 members.
