AfD data leak reveals internal documents and potential disinformation
A massive data leak involving the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has surfaced following a hacker attack on a technical hosting provider. The dataset, estimated to be between 280 and 300 gigabytes, contains approximately 421,000 emails and 50,000 documents spanning from March 2013 to September 2024. The compromised data includes correspondence from several high-profile accounts, such as those of Alice Weidel and Alexander Gauland, as well as internal administrative documents, donation information, and meeting protocols.
Investigations into the leaked material have revealed various contents, including discussions on party exclusion processes, travel plans to Russia, and instances of extremist rhetoric. Some documents also highlight the party’s long-standing efforts to establish ties with Donald Trump and the MAGA movement.
Concurrently, a wave of disinformation has emerged alongside the leak. Several high-profile messages attributed to AfD members, including Andreas Keith and Christer Cremer, have been identified as fabrications or AI-generated fakes. Specifically, a message attributed to Keith containing Holocaust denial was found to be inconsistent with the actual leaked material. These falsified documents have led to legal actions, including criminal charges filed by Keith against political opponents for spreading fabricated content.
