AfD demands answers on stalled Germany-Bosnia war graves agreement
Members of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) parliamentary group have submitted 28 questions to the German federal government regarding the long-delayed bilateral agreement with Bosnia and Herzegovina concerning German war graves.
The inquiry, documented in Bundestag file 21/8695, seeks clarification on why negotiations have remained unresolved for over a decade. While the German organization Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge manages war graves abroad through bilateral agreements, Bosnia and Herzegovina is not currently listed as a country with such a formal arrangement.
AfD representatives, including Tobias Teich, Malte Kaufmann, Stefan Keuter, Uwe Schulz, and Alexander Gauland, are questioning whether administrative or political obstacles, specifically within Republika Srpska, are hindering the process. The document notes that negotiations were reportedly underway as early as 2012, yet as of 2022, the Volksbund indicated that an agreement had still not been reached. The party is seeking details on the current status of any draft agreements and the specific institutions involved in the ongoing talks.
