AfD hits record poll highs as CDU and CSU plunge in Germany

A new Insa poll shows the far‑right Alternative for Germany (AfD) reaching a historic 35 % in the Mecklenburg‑Vorpommern state election survey, becoming the strongest party in the region. The CDU fell to a historic low of 10 % in the same poll, while the SPD holds 28 % and the Left Party 11 %.

In a separate nationwide Insa poll, the AfD holds a record 29 % of voter intention. The CDU slipped to 17.1 % and the Bavarian sister party CSU dropped to 4.4 %, falling below the 5 % threshold for the first time since the Federal Republic’s founding. The Greens remain at 13 %, the SPD at 12.5 %, and the Left at 10.5 %. Smaller parties such as the FDP, BSW and others stay below the entry mark.

These results underline a significant shift in German politics ahead of upcoming state and federal elections, with the AfD challenging traditional centre‑right parties for dominance.
