AfD-Jugend faces internal rift over European policy

Internal tensions have emerged within the AfD-Jugend (Generation Deutschland) regarding the party's stance on Europe. During a recent annual meeting in Magdeburg, a motion proposing a commitment to Europe and the pursuit of a common strategic European narrative failed.

Jean-Pascal Hohm, head of the youth wing, sought to professionalize the organization and foster international networking with other European right-wing groups, such as the FPÖ-Jugend from Austria. The proposal suggested that while the current EU structure requires fundamental reform, Europe needs a strong internal market and benefits from the Euro.

However, the motion faced intense criticism from members advocating for a hardline anti-Euro and anti-Schengen position, consistent with the broader AfD platform. Following the backlash, Hohm withdrew the motion, highlighting a rift between those seeking international connectivity and those adhering to strict nationalist isolationism.
