AfD Leads German Polls Ahead of 2026 Election

Recent opinion polls in Germany show the far‑right AfD as the clear front‑runner ahead of the scheduled 2026 Bundestag election. The ZDF Politbarometer places the AfD at 28 % (up 1 point) while the Union (CDU/CSU) falls to 24 %. An Insa survey for Bild am Sonntag gives the AfD 29 % versus 22 % for the Union. Similar results appear in YouGov (AfD 29 %) and the Forsa poll (AfD 27 %).

Other parties lag considerably: the SPD and the Greens each sit around 13 % (the Greens down one point), the Left remains near 10‑11 %, and the FDP would fall to about 4 %, missing the threshold to enter the Bundestag. The BSW also registers about 3 %, likewise below the entry mark. These figures indicate a sizable gap between the AfD and the traditional centre‑right bloc, with no sign of a rebound for the governing SPD‑Green coalition.

The polls were conducted between mid‑June 2026, surveying roughly 1,200‑1,200 respondents each, and carry the usual margins of error of ±2‑3 %.
