AfD leads in German election polls amid party funding reports
A new Infratest survey for the ARD-Deutschlandtrend indicates that the AfD currently leads in potential Bundestag election polling with 27 percent, followed by the Union at 20 percent. Other party standings include the Greens at 16 percent, the SPD at 13 percent, the Left at 11 percent, and the FDP at 4 percent, which falls below the mandate threshold.
Regarding government performance, satisfaction with the federal government stands at 10 percent, while 89 percent of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with the work of the Union and SPD. Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) holds a satisfaction rating of 10 percent, the lowest in the history of this specific trend. In contrast, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) maintains a 50 percent satisfaction rate.
Financially, the AfD reported total revenues of approximately 36.3 million euros for 2024, resulting in a surplus of about 2.6 million euros. A significant portion of these funds, totaling over 12.7 million euros, comes from state partial financing. While the AfD's total income is lower than that of the SPD or CDU, its funding remains sufficient for personnel and regional election campaigns.
