AfD confirms major data breach involving 421,000 emails

The Alternative for Germany (AfD) has confirmed a cyberattack on a hosting provider used by the party, which occurred in September 2026. The breach resulted in the unauthorized copying of data from several email mailboxes, with reports indicating that approximately 421,000 messages totaling roughly 281 gigabytes were leaked online.

An anonymous website, hexane.cc, has published an index of the leaked material, providing AI-generated summaries of the messages. These summaries reportedly include content categorized by themes such as racism and antisemitism. Some leaked communications allegedly contain references to Nazi symbols, swastikas, and antisemitic rhetoric.

The AfD stated that the majority of the affected mailboxes had not been in use for years and that current leadership accounts were not compromised. However, cybersecurity experts have noted that the data includes messages as recent as September 2026. The leaked information reportedly includes membership lists, financial data, and correspondence involving high-ranking party figures, including co-leader Alice Weidel and honorary chairman Alexander Gauland.
