AfD political activity in German sports clubs sparks concern

The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is increasingly utilizing local sports clubs to reach voters, particularly in rural areas. In Upper Bavaria, the TSV Polling club faced protests after allowing an AfD campaign event at its premises, leading some members to withdraw support due to the club's perceived failure to distance itself from far-right politics.

In Saxony-Anhalt, following the AfD's significant electoral success, local clubs focused on integration are expressing concern for their future. The SV Blau-Weiß Grana, a football club known for integrating refugees since 2015, faces uncertainty regarding its social role and stability in the current political climate.

The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and the German Sports Youth (DSJ) have reaffirmed their stance against extremism, ethnic nationalism, and human rights violations, urging sports organizations to take a clear position against discrimination.
