European Public Prosecutor Office searches EU Parliament offices

The European Public Prosecutor Office (EPPO) conducted searches at European Parliament administrative offices in Brussels and Strasbourg on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. The investigation focuses on the alleged misuse of approximately 4.3 million euros in EU funds by the former Identity and Democracy (ID) political group between 2019 and 2024.

The suspected irregularities involve improper donations and non-compliant public procurement procedures. While the searches targeted administrative spaces used by former ID staff, the Patriots for Europe group—which includes parties like France's National Rally and Italy's Lega—stated that the actions do not target elected MEPs or their offices.

The Patriots for Europe group maintains there is no legal continuity with the dissolved ID group and asserts they are not involved in the investigation. However, a 2025 committee opinion suggested the new group could be treated as the economic successor to ID for the purposes of fund recovery.
