AfD proposes capping German development aid at 2 billion euros

The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is proposing a massive reduction in Germany's development aid budget. Rocco Kever, the party's development policy spokesperson in the Bundestag, has called for capping development funding at 2 billion euros, a significant decrease from the currently planned 10.1 billion euros.

Kever's proposal includes the dissolution of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). He advocates for a shift away from traditional state-led development financing toward models driven by private donors, such as crowdfunding and private investment. Kever justified the party's stance by questioning the effectiveness of current policies, noting that despite 60 years of aid, political instability continues to rise in regions like Africa.
