AfD remains strongest party in new Insa poll
A new Insa opinion poll for the upcoming German federal election shows the Alternative for Germany (AfD) as the leading political force with 30 percent of the vote. The Union follows with 19 percent, marking a one-point increase from the previous survey. The Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Greens are currently tied at 14 percent each.
The Left Party (Die Linke) has seen a decline to 10 percent, while the Free Democratic Party (FDP) has dropped to 4 percent, which would place them below the five-percent threshold required to enter the Bundestag.
Based on these figures, a coalition between the Union, SPD, and Greens would hold 340 of the 630 seats, making them the only realistic option for government formation. While the Union could reach a majority by partnering with the AfD, such a coalition is categorically rejected under the party's current policy of maintaining a ‘firewall’ against the far-right.
