Kurt Krömer faces AfD criminal complaint over remarks about voters
Comedian Kurt Krömer is facing legal action from the AfD after making controversial remarks about the party's supporters. In an Instagram video, Krömer stated that he would not sell tickets to AfD voters for his upcoming 2027 reading tour, remarking that their money “stinks” and that he has no desire to look at “pig faces” on stage. He also referred to them as “mentally disconnected friends.”
Dennis Hohloch, an AfD politician and member of the federal executive board, has filed a criminal complaint against Krömer for suspected incitement to hatred (Volksverhetzung) and insult. Additionally, Hohloch launched an online petition calling for the public broadcaster ZDF to terminate its cooperation with the comedian, citing his upcoming show “Krömers letzte Stunde.”
Legal experts have expressed skepticism regarding the success of the complaint. Martin Heger, a professor of criminal law at Humboldt University, noted that for an insult to be legally actionable, the targeted group must be sufficiently defined, and he does not believe the statements meet the threshold for incitement to hatred.
